Making Time for other passions as an entrepreneur
Making time for other passions while running your own business. When I first heard about this I was hesitant to do it just because I felt like I didn’t have time for other passions and it would deter me from my business. But when I started incorporating other things in my life that I consider to be passions, it actually brought me peace so I can focus on my business a lot more.
Benefits of practicing other passions as a entrepreneur
As I started to go back to the other things that I felt very passionate about early on in my life like growing, agriculture, martial arts, dog training, recycling, and just being out in nature. I started to realize that even with my passions I still face the same struggles I do with my business.
For example with my recycling passion I collect plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and recyclable items not only for the money but because it makes me happy to not see them on the ground and getting put to use.
Recognizing patterns in mindset
I also live in a country where poverty is pretty well established in people's mindset. I like to pick stuff up off the ground and turn it into money just to show that there is opportunity everywhere even in the places where it seems like it’s not there. It brings me a lot of peace. However I started to notice a familiar fear as I was picking up bottles from the street with people looking at me. I started to feel self doubt, the insecurity of what other others think.
As I was storing recyclable items behind my house I started to feel nervous that someone would find my stash and would report me.
Another example of how I noticed the same negative things creeping into my passions was with my growing.
I was growing some plants that some people may not like. As I was growing them enjoying their presence, I also started feel the feelings of fear, doubt, and other negative emotions associated with the plants not doing well or the plants getting destroyed in one way or another.
Personal life and business are connected
As I pursued my passions I started to realize the thought patterns present in my business life are also present in my personal life.
Creating time for other passions and fulfilling these passions has given me a deeper insight into myself and my mindset and how certain things can trigger negative emotional responses that I do not want anymore.
And as I encounter these things that I’m changing about myself in different aspects of my life, I can look at them from different angles and create better solutions to the problems that I’m facing.
To wrap it all up, creating time for other passions has really helped me look at my mindset from different perspectives and helped me identify both good and bad qualities in thinking.
It’s also help me innovate and incorporate lessons that I’ve learned from my passions into my business. This is something I plan on continuously doing. I should've never stopped in the first place.
